Expert Heroes: Unlocking, Skills & Relationships

What Are Expert Heroes?
Expert Heroes are a separate, more powerful hero system from the regular generational heroes. They provide significant combat and development bonuses and are progressed through two independent systems: a skill tree and a relationship system. Both require their own resources and are tracked separately.
How to Unlock Expert Heroes: Trek
Expert heroes are unlocked through Trek, a dedicated game mode where you encounter heroes on an expedition. Each run costs Trek Supplies, which regenerate daily โ you can earn around 30โ40 Trek Supplies per day.
During Trek encounters, you interact with heroes and build affinity with them. Once you accumulate 1,000 affinity with a specific hero, they are permanently unlocked. After that, affinity with that hero no longer matters โ the unlock is one-time and permanent.
The Skill System
Once unlocked, each expert hero has 4 skills that can be leveled up. Skills are upgraded using two resources:
- Books of Knowledge: Required to level up skills. Different skills cost different amounts per level.
- Skill XP: Earned through learning sessions. Sessions run at 60 XP per minute and come in durations of 10 minutes, 2 hours, 10 hours, 23 hours, 3 days, and 5 days.
Both resources are required together โ you need enough Books of Knowledge and enough Skill XP to complete each level upgrade. The Skill Calculator lets you plan upgrades for one or multiple heroes at once, showing the total books needed, total XP needed, and the optimal combination of learning sessions to reach your targets.
Which Skills to Prioritize
Each hero's skills are different โ some boost troop combat stats, others improve development speed or specific event performance. Focus on maxing the 1โ2 skills that directly benefit your current playstyle before spreading points across all four. Check the Expert Heroes page for skill breakdowns and community recommendations for each hero.
The Relationship System
Separate from skills, each expert hero also has a relationship level that can be raised from 0 up to level 100 (in increments of 10). Higher relationship levels unlock additional passive bonuses for that hero.
Upgrading a hero's relationship requires two resources:
- Affinity XP: Earned from affinity items โ Compass (10 XP), Fiery Heart (100 XP), and Sail of Conquest (1,000 XP). These are different from the Trek affinity used to unlock heroes.
- Sigils: A separate material spent to confirm each relationship level upgrade once you have enough Affinity XP.
Use the Relationship Calculator to track your current relationship level for each hero, enter your affinity item inventory, and see exactly how much more you need to reach your target level. It also calculates SvS, KOI, and Showdown points earned from the Sigils spent.
Hero Progression Priority
With two separate progression tracks and limited resources, here's a sensible order of priorities:
- 1. Unlock your first hero via Trek โ focus all Trek Supplies on one hero until you hit 1,000 affinity.
- 2. Level your most impactful skills first โ identify the 1โ2 skills with the biggest impact for your playstyle and max those before the others.
- 3. Raise relationship level alongside skills โ use affinity items and sigils consistently; don't let them pile up unused.
- 4. Begin Trek toward your second hero โ once your first hero's most important skills are well-developed, start working on the next.
Using the Calculators
Both hero calculators on WoS Calculators are designed to work together for full hero planning:
- Skill Calculator โ plan Books of Knowledge and learning session requirements for one or more heroes across all four skills.
- Relationship Calculator โ track relationship levels, enter your affinity item inventory, and calculate how many Sigils you need.
- Expert Heroes page โ full hero database with skill descriptions and build recommendations to help you decide where to invest.
